For all the television CSI fans

I am not a huge CSI fan-not CSI Miami, CSI New York or even the “original” CSI which takes place in Las Vegas, Nevada.  However, when I first took a trip to the Office of the Medical Investigators (OMI) here in Albuquerque, I expected a laboratory similar to the ones that are portrayed on these TV shows.  Much to my surprise, the facilities were far less than the images I had been expecting thanks to the media of TV and movies.

Beginning in July of 2010, however, I am proud to say that New Mexico will be home to the latest state-of-the-art facility.   We toured the bottom floor (which houses part of OMI) of the five-story, $89 billion facility recently and finally, I saw a laboratory that exceeded my expectations.   This facility puts all the TV shows and movies to shame!   16 autopsy tables compared to their present 6, touch-screen computer monitors that take the place of paper, a special enclosed washroom for gurneys (similar to a car wash), a CT scanner, and special air-locked autopsy suites for special cases are just some of the additional amenities that were on display.

It was a fabulous facility and one that will serve New Mexicans well but I have a feeling it will be the new standard in forensics.

I am a big CSI fan.. But sicnce your not a big fan you wouldn’t know all the adventures that happen in the show besides that they catch criminals. There is also internal conflicts, like Warrick dying, Grissom leaving and the police officer that died then the bomb exploding at his funeral. I really like that show.
